Houllier was offered Ljungberg...
Original article (in Swedish)
Martin's Translation: Fredik Ljungberg could have played for Liverpool instead of Arsenal. The manager Gerard Houllier was offered the swede when he still played for Halmstad.
- I should have bought him, says Houllier.

Fredrik Ljungberg, the player that most englishmen fears the most in Sweden, went to Arsenal instead 1998. But he could have gone to Liverpool says the french manager Gerard Houllier.

- If I had the money 1998 I would have bought him, says Houllier and keeps talking about the swedish star:
- We were offered to buy Freddie when he was at Halmstad. I was interested but wanted to spend my money on strengthing(?) the defence instead.

How Ljungberg would have performed in Liverpool is just something we will have to speculate about. One thing is for sure though, the midfielder made his best season as the "Gunners" won both the league and FA-Cup.

Ljungberg believes he will play vs England....
Original article (in Swedish)
Martin's Translation: Fredrik Ljungberg has had problems with a groin injury and partly a hip injury as well since the game vs Japan. Early on the wednesday morning (swe time) Fredrik had to quit the practise. But he will play vs England on sunday:

- I really hope and believe so. But I really can't say how serious it is, it usually takes 24 hours before you really know. I had some feelings in my hip two days before the game vs Japan, but it went over, says Freddie.

Even though it isn't a serious injury it is ofcourse worrying because he has also had problems with his back. On sunday Sweden will play England and the coming days will decide whether Freddie, key player in the swedish team will play.

- Nothing is broken and we have treated the injury with current. He got a feeling on the last practise, therefore we felt that it was best that he quit for the day, says team doctor Anders Valentin. Ljungberg can't practise without feeling a little bit of pain.

If the game vs England would be today then Freddie probably wouldn't play, and he doesn't believe he will practise tomorrow (thursday).

- Of course this bothers me. I've really been looking forward to practising now that it's only five days left till the game. But hopefully it isn't a too bad injury, said the star.

Martin's Translation: According to Freddie's teammate in Arsenal the fight with Olof Mellberg wasnt the first time he "went crazy" on a training. The Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has also got a taste of Freddies anger.

Tony Adams, captain of Arsenal, knows Freddie very well. Freddies hot temperament has "gone over hill" (or something similar) on a training with Arsenal as well according to an Adams article in Observer.

- The most important thing now is that he accepts an excuse faster than he did from Lee, writes Adams.

Tony Adams isnt in the World Cup but has a huge experience, both in Arsenal and the national team.

Adams doesn't think the fight between Freddie and Olof Mellberg was anything special.

- I'm not sure about how it is in the swedish team now after Freddies attack after Mellbergs nasty tackle. But these things happens quite often, Adams continues.

The swede got in a fight in the same way with Dixon as wih Mellberg.

- It happened on one Arsenal training between Freddie and Lee Dixon. I think Freddie can accept these tackles in games, but not in training, writes Adams.

Martin's Translation: There's another story about Freddie where his former team mate in Halmstads BK, Håkan Svensson, tells his view of Freddie and says that "You've heard the talk on the street, that the success of Freddie has made him a "diva". But I don't believe so. Freddie is the same person today as when he played for Halmstad," says the keeper Håkan Svensson.

He was considered as a little bit cocky. Because of his style of play and the way he dressed, says Håkan Svensson.

"Freddie is a faboulous and terrific guy," says former teammate Torbjörn Arvidsson.

Has Fredrik got another status after the success in the club team this year? "Of course the status has raised because of the success he has had. But Freddie was a star already before the Euro 2000. So I believe Olof Mellberg is the one who has got a higher status in the team," says the World Cup reserve player Christoffer Andersson.

Martin's Translation: You might believe you've had enough of Ljungberg already. I wouldn't believe so. Check this link: www.weloveyoufreddie.com

When you enter the site you'll see that "......across North London, and probably the world, Gooners of all ages, genders, and sexual persuasions have been entering their local barbers, and asking not for a Brad Pitt, a Leo Sayer, or a Farrah Fawcett, but for a "Freddie Ljungberg". This site is dedicated to those people."

"We love you Freddie, Because you"ve got red hair, We love you Freddie, Because you"re everywhere, We love you Freddie, 'Cos you"re Arsenal through and through."

Martin says: Then this writer/journalist starts talking about some odd things, that I should click on "kids" somewhere..not sure if he means on this site (can't find any kids link here though), so I guess he just rambles(?) or something..=) It's just a very odd story which has nothing to do with Freddie nor your site, only the beginning is about Freddie then a new "chapter" or so starts...
