On the road to Shidu we got a flat tyre, which we had to change in four inches of snow. I say "we", but our driver resisted all of my attempts to help (I failed to communicate the fact that I used to be a tyre-fitter) and manfully did the whole job in his suit and slip-on shoes. We asked if he wanted to carry on, but he just smiled and said "Mei wenti" - no problem. Nothing seems to be a problem for the Chinese.
