Xiangshan Park, on the outskirts of Beijing. This place is a real getaway and it's only about 60 kuai (about £5) from central Beijing. By the entrance it's quite manicured, but you can storm up the hill (with several thousand Chinese), passing temples & pagodas on the way, to some pretty staggering views up top. There's also an interesting street just outside the park which has loads of cafes and stalls.
