It's a busy time. Some very kind local people who are interested in raising the profile of art in New Mills have asked me to put on an exhibition of my photography in an empty shop on the main street in town, in partnership with our local arts collective and gallery shop, New Mills Original*. It's going to be called "Walking Home: Five years in the High Peak"*. The exhibition is open to the public from 3pm-5pm on Tuesday 8th December in the erstwhile Selling Houses shop, then it will be visible as a window display, and also selected pieces will be in New Mills Original (Rock Mill Lane, behind Barclays Bank). The latest film I've been working on is out tomorrow- AM I BLACK ENOUGH FOR YOU - in cinemas from Friday. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks excellent, and has been garnering some good reviews. Check it out!

Finally, the DVD artwork for PATTI SMITH DREAM OF LIFE has gone off to press. Some jobs just seem like they are never going to end, but happily this one has, and you can buy PATTI SMITH DREAM OF LIFE here* now. And you can see some of my other DVD sleeve designs here.

Over the last few (actually about six - doesn't time fly?) years, a large part of my output has been in the form of DVD packaging. I've not counted exactly how many, but it must be around the 50 mark. That's 50 DVD sleeves (back and front), 50 DVD booklets, 50 DVD onbodies, 50 DVD menus...quite a lot of blood, sweat and tears (and yes, sometimes all at once). And that's not counting some of the highly complex special editions and multi disk packs that have caused temporary bouts of insanity in both me and my clients. Anyway, I've just realised that this achievement should be celebrated here - I've put up a gallery of them - not all of them right now, but the ones I have handy. So here is my partial gallery of DVD packaging design. When I get around to going through the archives, I'll get the rest up.

I've added my recent Bigga Than Ben film poster project to the portfolio. Not wishing to blow my own trumpet, but this one has received universal praise, which never happens. Quote from the director: "Everybody loves the poster! It's now Ben Barnes' screen saver." I can also report that I have been called a "f*cking genius" on two occasions. Nice to have some expletives directed to me in the form of praise, for a change. Looks like the US Sales agents are going to use the artwork as well, which is always a bonus.

4th Feb 2008
Two more posters added to the Poster Gallery.

PHILOSOPHY:
In most cases, the primary objective of a piece of design is not only to communicate your business message, but at the same time to create a feeling of harmony, trust and quality in your clientele. To best achieve this, I believe that tested usability principles should be applied to all forms of design. I can offer you solid, winning designs based on common sense, psychological principles and an eye for the original.
